Aeroport de Deauville St Gatien changes its name to Aéroport de Deauville-Normandie

Alain LE VERN, Président of the Syndicat Mixte de l'Aéroport de Deauville - Normandie ( Deauville-Normandy Airport Public Authority) annonces the official change of the airport name from Deauville - St Gatien to Deauville - Normandie

This official name change was approved by the Conseil Supérieur pour les Infrastructures de la Navigation Aérienne (CSINA), a committee under the aegis of the French Civil Aviation Authority. The committee consulted widely with many interest groups within the catchment of Deauville Airport, the local governments in the region as well as the two regional governements of Upper and Lower Normandy. The decree was signed by the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Transport on the 15th April 2011 and published in Le Journal Officiel of the French Govt on Saturday 23rd April 2011.

M. Le Vern commented:

" This name change reinforces the identity of Deauville Airport as THE inter-regional airport for all of Normandy. It consolidates its role not only within Normandy for the years to come, but also in France and in the wider context of European aviation.

This past year, 2010, Deauville Airport underwent a range of key improvements, including the re-surfacing of the 2,550m runway, new runway lighting, the installation of a simplified approach ramp and the strengthening and widening of the aircraft parking area.

Also in 2010 Deauville Airport welcomed its first scheduled regular air service from London City with CityJet and experience a very significant development in passager traffic to the level of 125,400 passengers, up 44% on 2009".

Procedure to reduce noise pollution around Deauville Airport

After several months of discussions with the Direction of Air Navigation Services, the Syndicat Mixte of Deauville Normandy Airport announced in early May of this year a change of take off procedure at Deauville Airport.

From now on all aircraft with a MTOW of over 5,5 tonnes (predominantly Airbus and / or Boeing) taking off on Runway 30 (westerly direction) will be obliged to proceed in a  straight line to 3000 feet before they can change direction for thier final destination. At this point aircraft will be over the sea and thus the level of noise disturbance to residential areas will be greatly reduced.

This change of procedure was published as a NOTAM on the 7th May 2009 and is a specific response to residents' worries about noise pollution in and around the airport.
