Aéroport de Deauville St Gatien changes its name to
Aéroport de Deauville-Normandie

Alain LE VERN, Président of Syndicat Mixte de l’Aéroport de Deauville Normandie (Deauville Airport Public Authority) annonces the official change of airport name from Aéroport de Deauville St Gatien to Aéroport de Deauville-Normandie.

This official name change was approved by the Conseil Supérieur de l’Infrastructure de la Navigation Aérienne (CSINA), a committee under the aegis of the French Civil Aviation Authority. The committee consulted widely with many interest groups within the catchment of Deauville Airport, the local governments in the region, as well as the two regional governments of Upper and Lower Normandy.

Président LE VERN commented :
« This name change reinforces the identity of Deauville Airport as THE inter-regional airport for all of Normandy. It consolidates its role not only within Normandy for the years to come but also in France and in the wider context of European aviation. This past year 2010, Deauville Airport underwent a range of key improvements  including the re-surfacing of the 2550m runway, new runway lighting, the installation of a simplified approach ramp and the strengthening and widening of the aircraft parking area.

Also in 2010 Deauville welcome its first scheduled regular service from London City with CityJet and experienced a very significant development in passenger traffic to the level of 125 460 passengers, up 44% on 2009 ».

Press Release of the 31st March 2009

At the Board Meeting of the 27th March 2009, the Syndicat Mixte of Deauville Normandy Airport voted the 2009 Initial Budget. The Syndicat Mixte will participate in financing up to 75% of several projects which include runway re-surfacing works and aircraft parking area, civil works to comply with water regulations (rain water sanitation), runway lighting and marking, the installationof a simplified approach plus ramp and additional car parking spaces (3rd phase). All projects will be managed by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Pays d'Auge (CCIPA).

In order to proceed with these works, Deauville St-Gatien Airport will be closed on a temporary basis for 12 weeks from the beginning of November 2009. The re-opening
of the Airport is planned for the first week of February 2010.

Press Release of the 6th April 2009

The Syndicat Mixte of Deauville Normandie Airport announced a change in the take off procedure at Deauville Airport. During takeoff, aircraft, large commercial aircraft (such as Boeing and Airbus) using Runway 30 in a westerly direction will only be allowed to change direction for their final destination after they have reached an altitude of 3,000 feet. At this point, the aircraft will be over the sea and so any noise disturbance to people living near the airport will be significantly reduced.

Press Release of the 26th June 2009

The Syndicat Mixte of Deauville Normandy Airport, presided by Alain Le Vern, President of Upper Normandy, held a Board Meeting of the Syndicat Mixte on Friday the 26th of June 2009. It was decided to publish the tender for the runway re-surfacing project, and to mandate the President to meet the management of Britair.

Following Britair’s recent announcement to cease operating the Le Havre / Rouen / Lyon in October of 2009 and with no recourse to financial compensation from the public authorities to operate these routes, it appears to be a good time to talk with the management of Britair about their future strategy concerning air services to and from Normandy.

This withdrawal, due to the weakness of the Le Havre / Rouen / Lyon service, confirms the strategy of the two Normandy regions to promote Deauville Normandy Airport as the interregional platform. The airport is located at the heart of the commercial region of Normandy, and possesses excellent advantages (such as the length of its runway) to offer users in Normandy a short-term attractive solution. The significant and steady growth of traffic, especially in charter flights, also reinforces this strategy.

Thus, the members of the Syndicat Mixte mandated President Le Vern to begin a discussion with the President of Britair, in order to understand Britair's future strategy and to outline the possibility of creating a new route from Deauville Airport.

Legal dispute with the ADRAD (Deauville Airport Neighbours Defence Association)

Deauville Airport Neighbours Defence Association (ADRAD) demanded the cancellation
of the Court's decision on the 21st July 2006, which stated that the Prefect of Calvados has the authority to appove the creation of the Syndicat Mixte of Deauville Normandy Airport.

Caen Administrative Court rejected their demand on the 18th of December 2007. Nantes Administrative Appeal Court also rejected ADRAD’s demand on the 16th of December 2008, and ADRAD were forced to pay a fee of €1,500 in compensation to the Syndicat Mixte.
